Breaking Legacy Chains: Within the intricate tapestry of Illinois’ bureaucratic framework, the issuance of licenses and permits across its 54 agencies posed a formidable challenge. Encumbered by outdated legacy mainframe systems, these processes proved not only costly but also cumbersome to support and maintain. Recognizing the urgent need for modernization, the State of Illinois embarked on a mission to revolutionize its licensing and permitting landscape, aiming to provide citizens with a unified, user-centric platform for streamlined application processes.
With a firm commitment to enhancing public accessibility, the State sought to consolidate disparate systems into a single, cohesive platform. This platform would serve as the gateway for citizens, offering a seamless, intuitive interface for submitting license and permit applications. By harnessing the power of technology, the State envisioned a future where bureaucratic hurdles are minimized and citizen engagement is maximized, ultimately fostering a more responsive and efficient governance model.
Solution
Strategic Partnership with NIC: As a vital collaborator with NIC, Krasan brings deep knowledge and experience within the State of Illinois government ecosystem. We’ve played a pivotal role in shaping the Illinois Enterprise Licensing and Permitting platform. Our contributions spanned from conducting business analysis to providing architectural resources, defining requirements, and guiding the design process. Building on this foundation, we actively engaged State Agencies, educating and involving them in the program. Our team then crafted customized requirements for each agency solution.
Cutting-Edge Technologies: The technology stack powering this transformation includes AWS hosting across multiple regions, Cognito for authentication/security, and an array of languages and frameworks, including Springboot, Hibernate, Node js, React, USWDS 2.x, ES6, HTML 5, and CSS 3. A Flux-based architecture with Redux, XCode, Webpack, and NPM further fuel the project. Reporting is handled through Jaspersoft, and UI design employs Sketch and Invision, supported by a toolkit of tools and technologies such as AWS CLI, Git, Krasan, Liquibase, Postman, Froala, CKEditor, Watchman, Microservices, and collaboration platforms like Jira, Atlassian, Confluence Content Management, Service Now, and Freshdesk Helpdesk.
