Challenge
The Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) is one of Maryland’s largest urban school districts, with over 300 schools. BCPSS manages all public schools to serve the youth throughout the urban area in the city of Baltimore. Baltimore City Public School System had several isolated, heterogeneous administrative systems with no integration. The users were consistently losing their trust in the data, process, and systems. The school district created several custom applications for position management, budgeting, and reporting, but none were integrated with their primary Oracle RFP E-Business Suite (Financials and HRMS).
Solution
The Krasan Consulting team completed a detailed assessment of BCPSS’ process and developed a strategic plan to integrate their Financials and HRMS systems. We implemented quality assurance processes, automated the position management process, and integrated the custom application/s with the Oracle E-Business Suite using Java and Oracle Applications Framework, Oracle Hyperion and OBIEE. The team established a Project Management and Daily Policy Council to monitor and manage data through the transition process from the original manual processes to the new automated systems.
Outcome
With the completed project, BCPSS has a reliable, reconcilable, and single source of truth for positions and budget information and are enabled to become data-driven when making strategic business decisions. The effort also generated significant reductions in time for position/budget reconciliation efforts. The new integration allowed for automated processes and information exchange across disparate systems and increased transparency and access to data and information.
